Murals at Home

I am having the best time planning the look for our new house!  What's fun about this stage is that I can indulge in dreaming about going in lots of different directions with the look without investing any money or time just yet.  Do we want a mostly neutral interior?  Pops of color in accents? Or bolder colors, maybe? Warm or cool? Or both?  It's fun to think about, and hopefully with a little preparation we will end up feeling good about whichever look we end up choosing.

One idea that has been on my mind lately is using murals to decorate a room.  I love how their airy, muted colors and natural themes transport a space into the outdoors--without the pollen or the dirt:)

I love this wallpaper from Susan Harter, who offers both in stock murals as well as custom ones.  No prices on her website, though, so look out! Something so beautiful is most likely not cheap, but it absolutely makes a room.

Paper Bouquet

Last night, I received a call from a very sweet husband hoping to surprise his bride of 1 year with something flowery in paper. I thought this was such an inspired and sweet idea, I had to say YES right away. The gentleman sent me photos of their wedding bouquet, which was lovely and inspiring. But, since it is May and I am OBSESSED with MINT, I had to veer towards a little extra color. I hope she loves it.  What a sweetie, right?!!

Monday News

I hope y'all are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Whew!  Things have been a little crazy around here.  Jady flew in from Austria last week with our Great Dane checked in as excess baggage (an understatement!), and we have been busy planning the rest of our move to Louisville.  Our original timeline has been scrapped now, since we can't move in until July 1st, but the great news is, we have a house!!  Finally, after looking at many, many houses, one falling through, and then lots of back and forth negotiations with the owner of this one, we are closing on July 1st!  I can hardly stand it I'm so excited, and I only wish I could get in there and get started on all of the projects I'm planning...

Happy Memorial Day!

Al Fin

It is Friday and this week has been full of inspiration-- thank you, Jonathan!!!
I thought for today I would leave you with a little color inspiration. I have been obsessed with corals and blues, and if you read the blog you know already!  I must say I love the way they complement each other.  They are the perfect match!

Things I Love

Jonathan's Inspiration

On Tuesday I posted about my interview with designer and overall style expert, Jonathan Hansen.  One especially fun part of our talk was seeing some of his favorite, most inspiring things.

He collects images, swatches and photos into a kind of inspirational scrapbook he calls simply "Things I Love."

Some of Jonathan's design work from a shoot for Thom Browne:

A couple of Jonathan's favorite books (and ones to add to your wish lists!):

One of Jonathan's favorite themes personified: an effortless combination of formal and traditional with casual and lived in (the guy on the left is literally climbing over his stacks of books in tennis shoes- I love it).

Also from the Vogue book: Cy Twombly and his wife, photographed in their apartment in Rome.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Babes & Art

When you have little ones around they are always doodling and creating art. It is hard to decide what to keep and what to recycle.  Especially when you live in limited space-- you can't keep everything. So when S started pre-school, I knew I would need to figure out a way to keep the memories of her work.

When S was two I began painting canvases with her. I thought this was a perfect way to save memories and decorate the house.  I have done the same with H. I love seeing how they develop and grow from scribbles, to trees.

Last week S and I worked on a themed series. She loves little deer and forest animals.  I think the theme turned out well, and S was pretty proud of herself.

A friend of mine recently suggested taking photos of everything and then organizing the projects in folders on my computer. What a brilliant idea!!! It is hard to know what to keep and throw out. As a mother it is always painful tossing out art.

These are two personal favorites, which will not be hitting the bin anytime soon.
