A Tale of Two Options

In our new house in Louisville (* still not final, but you can tell my hopes are definitely up), the first floor boasts some pretty high ceilings with clean, simple lines.  Of course I am already imagining what we'll want to do with the space, and I'm considering two different options.  One direction we could go in is to glam it up, adding crown molding and maybe chair/picture molding to make the space more ornate.  And we will definitely be tossing that ceiling fan in the dining room!
OR
Should we keep it clean and modern with an open, loft feel?  It's a tough call...

Here are a few ideas for a more traditional, ornate look.  I love how the wide molding makes a space look finished in a subtle, luxurious way.

Um, this is amazing.  Yes, please.

I love the picture molding in this adorable house we looked at in Louisville.  This little bit of extra woodwork adds a finished feel to a room without much cost.  You can even do this project yourself easily with a simple miter saw and some extra paint in the color of your trim.

I love this room- that elegant molding!  Those curtains!

OR, we could always go with a more modern interior.  The space on the first floor has already been opened up by removing walls and widening doorways, so it could be a great space for a loft kind of a feel.

Which look to you prefer?

  1. Liza - you should check out our rented UK (Edinburgh) flat - the living room. Talk about ornate and high ceiling! :-) Dylan misses it terribly. Luv, Jacqueline http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=45034587385&set=a.45033402385.71433.705957385&type=3&theater
