Bathroom Makeover: Soaker Tub?

While we were last in Baton Rouge visiting Jady's parents, my mother in law, Sally, mentioned that they are about to start planning a bathroom renovation in their master bath.  She very sweetly asked me to take a look and give her any ideas, which I was thrilled to get to do.  Before and after!  I love this kind of thing:)

We got so involved with throwing out ideas and brainstorming about color schemes, layout and updates that I spaced and totally forgot to take any photos for you, but I'll ask Sally to send me some so you can get the full experience.  Their master bath is a great space, with separate double sinks, a large tub, shower and plenty of room, so there is tons of potential for a beautiful, functional result after some reconfiguring and updating.

The focal point of the room as you enter is the bathtub, which they want to replace, and the question is whether to install a traditional built in or a large, freestanding soaker tub.  I love the lines of these soakers, and the fact that it isn't built in visually opens up the space, but I've never had one before.  Are there drawbacks?

Any thoughts?  If you have one, do you love yours or hate it?

  2. We are building a new master bath and those are the EXACT pictures I gave to my contractor! We are going with a built-in with a marble top and a wooden wainscoting detail. Here are my thoughts: They are both gorgeous but the freestanding tubs are just SO trendy right now that I'm going to pass. I'm worried that in ten years it will look dated since everyone I know is putting them in right now. Plus, I think the built-in is more functional. Where do you put your washcloth, soak (and book and wine glass??) xo

  3. We have a claw foot and I adore it! I love how deep it is. It has a handheld shower head also, which is wonderful. I would suggest getting the traditional length as opposed to the extra long. My mom has an extra long and they love it, but I always feel like I'm slipping in it. Can't wait to see the before and afters!
