Silk Curtains

These days, while I am covered in paint or drywall mud all day long, I have started to think a little about what this house will be like when we actually move into it, which is a fun way to motivate through these weeks of insanely hard work.  Sometimes I have to remind myself that we will actually have furniture again:)  One thing that's on my mind at the moment is curtains for the living room and dining room.  We don't have much (if anything? I can't remember!) in storage in the way of window treatments, so we'll be starting from scratch, and I would love to emphasize the ceiling height with some long, gorgeous silk drapes.

Here is a shot of our dining room at the moment-- the two windows flanking the fireplace would be a perfect spot for these curtains, and if we decide to let them break at the bottom, the billowy extra material would still be out of the way.

Silk curtains can cost an absolute fortune-- it's shocking, really-- and there is a range of quality out there, so you have to be careful and be sure that online purchases are returnable if they look cheap in person.  But it is possible to find affordable options that have the beauty and texture of real silk but the price of their polyester imitators. For instance, these panels come in a few varieties, including French Pleat, for $130 each. (All of these examples are for 108 inch panels; shorter drapes will be less expensive.)
