Traveling Fashionably, Continued

A few weeks ago, Mel posted about how to travel fashionably and inspired us to leave our sweats and track suits at home in favor of a more glamorous experience.  We are planning a little getaway over our New Year's vacation, and it got me thinking about what to wear to the airport.

The trick is always to figure out how to look like a grown up but feel (almost) like you're at home lounging on the couch in your pajamas.  I love Victoria Beckham's style, but I could never survive a long trip in sky-high heels and a constrictive dress, as much as I would love to be able to.

For me it's always important to wear a pair of comfortable shoes-- that means flats, or almost flats--and something that isn't too unforgiving, especially around the waist, like leggings with a loose sweater, jersey dresses, jeans with some stretch, etc.  And try to choose soft, comfortable fabrics that will breathe, as well as bringing layers, so you can adjust to the crazy temperature swings in the airport an on the plane.  These celebrities are pros at airplane travel and have in these photos managed to pull off the critical combination of put-together and comfortable.

The maxi dress is a great travel option, with its flowy fabric and flattering but comfortable shape.

Simple skinny leg black pants with a button down and blazer make a classic combination, and a jersey dress in a dark color is maybe the perfect travel outfit-- just add a sweater and scarf for chilly weather, and you're done.

Speaking of scarves, I never travel without one, no matter what the season, and my favorites are the bigger ones, which you can drape over yourself as an extra blanket when you're cold or ready for a nap.  They're the perfect, lightweight accessory for helping keep you warm when you need it.

If you are in need of some wardrobe updates before your next trip, here are some fun ideas for fashionable but still comfortable travel looks.

This loose fitting sweater dress from Zara will stay comfortable even on long flights, and since it's basic black, you can easily add color with accessories or luggage, if you want.
For a more neutral look, pair it with this scarf from Banana Republic.

Or to brighten up the look, try it with one of these options:
Left: wool scarf from J Crew, or Right: this silk chiffon scarf from Sacks 5th Avenue.

Left: In the winter, pair it with these MICHAEL by Michael Kors boots, or Right: these from Enzo Angiolini.

This maxidress by Michael Stars looks incredibly comfortable, perfect for long-haul flights.  It also comes in black.

Pair it with one of these adorable jackets, throw on a scarf (of course), and you'll be looking great no matter how far away your destination is.

Left: cropped blazer by Forever 21, and Right: leather jacket by ASOS.

Throw on this pretty basic blouse with zip back from Zara with a colorful silk cashmere wrap from J Crew.  Choose a favorite, flattering pair of dark straight leg jeans or black pants with a little stretch in them for comfort.

And then top it off with something to keep you warm when it gets chilly on the plane: Left: cashmere blend cardigan from Nordstrom, or Right: this pretty lace jacket from Piperlime.

Finally, to be sure you stay comfortable while travelling without cruising around in your tennis shoes, go with ballet flats, anywhere from basic to fun and funky.  You'll look great but will still be able to sprint from one end of an airport to another to catch that connection in style:)
Ballet flats from Nine West
Or these flats, also from Nine West, give a basic outfit a fun splash of color, and they're on sale for an unbelievable 34.99 right now!  They come in lots of colors.
These flats from Piperlime would be especially comfy with their stretchy crisscross ankle bands to keep them from slipping.

And don't forget the perfect carry-all, the Le Pliage tote from Longchamp, that folds up in your handbag on the way there and fills up with what you've bought for on the way back.

Bon Voyage!

Liza
